About Me (The Long Version)

I am Brian L. Belen, and I’m the Chief Brain here at Brain Drain.

I read a lot of books, play a fair bit of video games, collect comics occasionally, am a self-professed technophile, make a good amount of presentations, and get to travel quite a lot. So these are the things I write about here.

Human decision-making also fascinates me, so I occasionally write about that, too.

I am a graduate of the University of Asia and the Pacific (AB Humanities, MA Political Economy) as well as Fordham University (MA Economics), where I am currently a PhD candidate in the graduate economics program. I am also probably the first Filipino student of Singapore Management University having spent a semester there on a non-degree basis.

I used to be a teacher, devoting three-odd years of my life to teaching courses in political thought, international and comparative political economy, and basic macroeconomics both in the Manila and in New York.

I presently work at First Asia Venture Capital (FAVC), a direct investment and management holding company based in Manila that my father founded in 1983. The investment portfolio of FAVC includes education and educational publishing, hotel management, electronics manufacturing, cargo forwarding and corporate philanthropy.

I reside in the Philippines with my wife.

I can also be found online via Twitter, Facebook, Slideshare, or Xbox Live.
