About the Blog (and What’s On It)

Brain Drain is a weblog organized around the principle that whatever is expressed in these pages are personal musings that I have no qualms about making public. That’s it. This is not an exercise in “it’s my blog and I can say whatever I want” (at least, I hope not) nor is it a venue for me to vent my frustrations about the world in order to “burn” people, places or things (though that may happen on occasion). Rather, it is my hope that whatever you read here is in good taste, reflecting well-reasoned opinions, and as such can be amusing and entertaining, if not intriguing.

It’s a little difficult to describe what the blog is “about” as there are a number of things I’m interested in that make their way onto Brain Drain. These are organized under the following headings:

  • Academically Speaking: thoughts on topics related to economics and the occasional missive about life in graduate school as I work towards getting my PhD.
  • Books: a compilation of the stuff I’ve been reading. ‘Nuff said.
  • Comics: because I’ve gotten back into the habit of reading comic books and graphic novels. Again.
  • Odds and Ends: a compendium of things I’ve come across and written about - mostly websites or online articles - that people may want to check out for themselves. This is also the category I use for things I write about that don’t fit neatly under the other headings.
  • Ramblings: a journal on more personal goings-on, as well as nothing in particular.
  • Reviews: more like detailed opinions on the things that catch my fancy. The most-reviewed items on this blog have been books and video games, but I have been known to write a review of other things when the spirit moves me.
  • Show and Tell: the rubric under which I photoblog. As much as possible these will contain pictures I actually take (or are taken by people I know) rather than stock photos.
  • Technology: where I unleash my inner technophile. As a Mac user I usually write about Apple-related gizmos and gadgets, though I have an affinity for most things high-tech.
  • Video Games: a category that speaks for itself. Circumstances have dictated that these are mostly Nintendo titles, particularly for the Wii and the DS.
  • I hope this gives you a better idea of what to expect from the blog.

    Enjoy!
